Linda B. Levine, a longtime
Cambridge resident, and her sister Naomi Levine Klotz were born and brought
up in Queens Village and Great Neck on Long Island in New York. With just
13 months difference in their ages, they have been painting as long as they
can remember. Linda wanted to be an entrepreneur. To that end, she attended
Northeastern University and received a Master of Business Administration
degree. In 1983 she launched her line of Boston cards, calling the
business, Artists See Boston. The Victorian cityscapes of Boston and
the waters of the Charles River and seashore of New England inspire their
art. Linda's oil pastel, and colored pencil drawings have been described as
a cross between folk art and impressionism with a dose of whimsy.
She believes in making her art practical and
accessible, selling her line of prints, cards, postcards and gifts from her
business at historic Fanueil Hall (Stamp of Approval) as well as many local
galleries and stores. You may buy a pin to wear on your lapel, a magnet for
your refrigerator or a print to adorn your wall. Literally thousands of
people own postcards or prints from Artists See Boston, including
former Governor William Weld whose sister-in-law bought him Linda's
original drawing of the Weld Boathouse in Cambridge.
Naomi received a
Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University. Her finely
detailed and brightly colored style complements Linda's folk artsy
drawings. She makes her home in Orange, Connecticut, a suburb of New Haven,
with husband Alan and daughters Jessica and Samantha.
Art and business are a family affair in the
Levine household. Their maternal grandfather and his brother established a
retail store in Canton, Ohio in 1898 that sold stationary, printing and
office furniture. Boyfriend, Werner Rasmussen, a native of Denmark, can be
found most times greeting customers at the North End Gallery (www.northendgallery.com) 354
Hanover Street, Boston Mass. 02113 Telephone (617) 742-6611.
